Get to Know Me!
The Full Story
Health and Wellbeing Coaching.....This is my absolute passion! I love helping people to live their happiest and healthiest lives - because we deserve it!!
In terms of my own health and wellbeing journey, throughout the last few years I have had experience with low mood, depression, anxiety and binge eating. But I will get to that! Firstly I have to tell you all about me.....lucky you!
From roughly the age of 8 my badminton journey began. My parents and both my sisters played badminton - so it was pretty obvious I was destined to follow in their footsteps! I started having coaching from about the age of 10 years old, played at county level and progressed over the years to National and International level. I represented my country on many occasions - such as the U15 8 Nations and the UK School Games. I became top 40 in the world in my age group and top 3 in both doubles and mixed at National junior level.
However the time came to choose my path - badminton or career. As high level and potential I had, nothing was more important to me than securing a positive future for myself. I chose to go to Edge Hill University and studied Sports Therapy which is fair to say, was the best decision I ever made! I made lots of life long friends, including my husband, I had a sports scholarship and won Sports Personality of the Year, team captain, and lots of volunteering opportunities with sports teams and companies such as Rocktape.
After University I decided to set up on my own with Sports Therapy. I helped at sporting events, therapeutic massage for spas and lots lots more. From here I became a Therapy Assistant at a Brain Injury Care Home and had a wonderful opportunity presented to me as a Therapy Assistant on the respiratory wards at Milton Keynes Hospital........in February 2020.......oh yes here we go!
So starting my new job was fairly straight forward - being shown the ropes, day to day running, getting used to my role etc......but then everything turned around so quickly when Covid hit that it was like we were all running on adrenaline. The second wave for me was the hardest and coming out the other end of Covid I did not realise how low I had sunk. That was my "stuck in a hole moment". I had been using all my energy, running on autopilot for so long I had not realised I had fallen into a massive black hole - nowhere to turn, nowhere to go, it was dark, lonely and awful. I had low mood and depression, I had panic and anxiety attacks that left me out of it for days. My binge eating had started but I was absolutely oblivious that this was happening. THIS WASN'T ME. I was fun, sociable, energetic, fit and healthy, I was not one to stay at home, eat and cry all day.
In the middle of all this, I was also experiencing the most exciting times of my life - getting engaged, getting a dog and moving house (they say do it in threes don't they?!). I felt guilt and sometimes avoidance, asking myself questions such as "why do I deserve this?".
Then this WONDERFUL opportunity came before me and I when I applied for the job I felt like I had struck gold - Health and Wellbeing Coach. Helping people with a variety of different wellbeing needs gain control, increase motivation and get their confidence back through coaching. Not only was this an opportunity for work - but meeting other Health and Wellbeing Coaches changed my life! My mentor coached me and helped me work on myself - being mindful, being kind to myself, helping me start to move forward, take control and build my confidence. I was able to then give this wonderful knowledge and empowerment to my patients and help them reach their goals.
I have been working for GP practices for the NHS for two years now and I have found my true calling. I am so passionate to share my experiences and to let you all know that YOU CAN OVERCOME YOUR DEMONS TOO. I have met some amazing colleagues who have shaped and supported my journey and I am forever grateful.
The most powerful thing I have found on my HWBC journey is that the person who pulls you out the hole IS YOU. You become your own superhero and you learn so much about yourself. Something I will drill into you is life happens - be kind to yourself. Starting very very simply and working upwards will shape your journey and you will be able to achieve ANYTHING you set your mind to.
SO COME ON!! Talk to me and let's get you back to being you!
